Springtime Joy stamp set for PP535

The Paper Players 535 is a Theme Challenge from Jaydee, the theme is flowers.  I love flowers and card ideas flooded my mind, but I decided to mix it up and challenge myself to create something different.  I wanted to try a make a symmetrical and  minimalist style of card, use one stamp set and I wanted to use my Stamparatus™   So I pushed myself out of my comfort zone, and to be perfectly honest I'm not quite sure about this card, but I've decided to walk away and just let it be :)

Use the Stamparatus™ to create the card.

*  Practice first on the Stamparatus™ Grid Paper.  I like to work in the middle of the grid, so I laid the 4x4 layer in the centre of the grid, I think it was 2 inches up from the bottom, 2 inches in from the left and 1 inch in from the right.  I mark this area on the grid paper and then remove the 4x4 layer and practice stamping on the grid paper.  Position the stamp in the bottom right 1x1 inch square and stamp, move the plate along the hinge until you've stamped four flowers, re-inking as you go.  Wipe off your stamp and re-position it on the next 1x1 square above and repeat your process.  You will find what works for you, practice first and find the pattern :)

*  Stamp three rows of tulips with Memento Black ink.

*  The butterfly also fits in a 1x1 inch square, so I put one on either side of the greeting which miraculously fits perfectly in a 2 inch square.  Actually I think Stampin' Up!® plans the dimensions of each stamp so that they'll coordinate so well together. 

*  The bottom row is coloured with Petal Pink and Calypso Coral Stampin' Blends Markers, the middle row is coloured with Flirty Flamingo and Melon Mambo, the top row is coloured with Purple Posy and Highland Heather.

*  The butterflies are coloured with Pool Party Stampin' Blends Markers and the greeting is stamped with Granny Apple Green.

*  Adhere the 4x4 layer to the 4x4 Thick Basic White card base with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Fab Friday #210 a Color Challenge with Campology Stamp Set

Todays card was created for the Fab Friday 210 Challenge using the colours Misty Moonlight, Pear Pizazz, and Smokey Slate.  I love this colour combo!  I decided to use a sketch from Freshly Made Sketches #479, because I missed playing along with their challenge last week.

Here's the card details:

5 1/2 x 4 1/4 Smokey Slate card base, landscape orientation (5 1/2 x 81/2 folded in half)

5 x 3 3/4 Basic White layer

4 7/8 x 3 5/8 Pear Pizazz layer

1/2 x 3/3/4 strip of Basic White for the sentiment

1 1/2 x 2 Basic White for the tent image

1 9/16 x 2 1/16 (a smidge bigger than the Basic White piece above) in Misty Moonlight 

2 3/4 x 1 5/8 Basic White for the 'Happy Trails' sentiment & to frame the Misty Moonlight piece above.

Assembly & 'Trix':

*  Stamp the trees with Pear Pizazz ink.

*  Stamp 'explore' on the 1/2 strip with Pear Pizazz ink.   *** I used my Stamparatus™ to help get it straight.  I positioned my paper vertically, aligned my stamp at the bottom of the strip, then moved the clear plastic plate up, one hinge at a time.  

*  Stamp 'happy trails' with Misty Moonlight ink using the Stamparatus ™ 

*  Colour the tent with Misty Moonlight Stampin' Blends Markers.  The grass is coloured with Pear Pizazz using a Blender Pen because I don't have Pear Pizazz Stampin' Blends Markers :)

*  All the card layers are adhered using Multipurpose Liquid Glue.  After gluing the three layer tent piece, I popped it up with dimensionals.

A Magic Card with Hey Chick & Hey Birthday Chick Bundles

The card I have for you today is really neat.  It's called a Magic Card and I found a video for it created by Brandi Barnard at Stampin' Up!®  It's super fun to create and when I saw it I thought, that could be done with die cut outs, and of course my go to is the Chicks!  I love the Chicks Bundles and I just had to make a barnyard scene with chicks popping out as a surprise.   The 'Trix' I found helpful and the card directions are below the pictures.  And here's the link to Brandi's video Brandi's Magic Card

 

Isn't that super neat!  You just pull the tab and a picture appears :)

Here's the card details:

5 1/2 x 12 Misty Moonlight Card Stock for the card base

4 1/4 x 5 1/2 Misty Moonlight layer

3 3/4 x 5 1/4 Basic White Thick Card Stock layer

3 3/4 x 5 1/4 Window Sheet

*  Various card stock colours of choice for the scene, I used Cherry Cobbler, Soft Suede, Pear Pizzaz, Night of Navy, Pretty Peacock, Granny Apple Green Basic White & Crumb Cake.

*  Stampin' Blends Markers for the Chicks, same colours as above plus Highland Heather, Daffodil Delight, Petal Pink & Flirty Flamingo

Assembly and some 'Trix'  :)

*  Score the 5 1/2 x 12 Misty Moonlight card base at 4 inches & 8 1/4 inches on the 12 inch side, fold and burnish.  You will have three sections.  The centre section will be 4 1/4, this will become the 'picture frame' front of the card.  The left and right sections will be the flaps folded to the back to create a pocket.

*  Open the card up and score again at an 1/8 of an inch on either side of the centre 4 1/4 middle of the card, ensure you score on the outside edge as this will add some depth for the dimensionals so that the card will be able to slide in and out.  

*  Cut out the centre of the 4 1/4 section with a Rectangle Stitched Framelits Die, ensure you have at least a 1/2 inch edge so that the card can slide in and out easily without the card buckling.

* Open the card to its full width, flip it over and add three Foam Adhesive Strips cut to size, on the two sides and bottom.  Adhere close to the fold line to give as much room for the card to slide in and out as possible.  Leave the protective strip on until later.

* Lay the Window Sheet on top of the Basic White layer evenly and decide the placement of the images.  I laid all the die cut images onto the Window Sheet to figure out how to place them.  For example, I wanted the chick to look like she was popping out from behind the corn stalk, and I wanted the chick eating the cupcake to fit just behind the fence to create a bit of dimension.  I needed to decide which image would be glued to the Window Sheet and which one would be glued to the Basic White layer.  

*** 'Trix' slide the chicks behind the window sheet to ensure correct placement.  Then lay the Misty Moonlight frame over the top, to again ensure everything is lined up and fitting within the picture frame.  For example I needed to allow space at the bottom for the Misty Moonlight frame, so the fence needed to move up by 1/2 inch to be visible. 

*  Adhere the outside card front die cut images to the Window Sheet using Multipurpose Liguid Glue and set aside to dry. (barn, fence, corn stalk, steamers, happy birthday sign, baby chick)    * I left the baby chick until the end and popped it up on dimensionals because I wanted to ensure the card would slide in and out easily.

*  Adhere the inside images to the Basic White layer using Multipurpose Liquid Glue and set aside to dry. (chick and chick eating cupcake)  

*  Flip the Misty Moonlight card over and adhere the 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 layer of Misty Moonlight to the Foam Adhesive Strips.   * I left the flaps open until the end, as I wanted to ensure the card would slide in and out easily.

*  Create a tab using a circle punch, fold in half.  Adhere one half to the Window Sheet and the other half to the Basic White layer at the top of the card, this will keep the layers together, but apart, so that they can slide separately over the Misty Moonlight layer that is raised with dimensionals.

* Overlap the back flaps and punch out an opening to grip the tab on the card.  *** 'Trix' doing it this way keeps the front of the card looking like an actual picture frame. 

*  Slide the card into place.  The Misty Moonlight layer on dimensionals will keep the Window Sheet and the Basic White layer separate until they are pulled together with the pull tab when opening.   -  This is the Magic part of the card :)  

*** 'Trix' slide the card in and out a few times to ensure it moves easily and none of the die cut images catch, then glue the back flaps closed to close up the back of the card.  Ensure you only put glue on the one edge and across part of the bottom.

#TGIFC310 Colour Combo Challenge with Nothing's Better Than & Many Messages Stamp Sets

I am so excited to show you how I made this little card for the TGIFChallenge, a colour challenge using Blushing Bride, Flirty Flamingo and Pool Party.   This is such a simple fun design to make,  its so easy to mix it up with whatever you have on hand.  I hope you give this card a try, all the measurements are below.  Please click on either my card or the TGIFC image to go directly to their blog and see what inspiration awaits you!  Thx so much to TGIFC for creating these challenges to push our creativity.

5 1/2 x 4 1/4 Portrait card base in Pool Party (5 1/2 x 8 1/2 folded in half)

3 3/4 x 5 Blushing Bride Layer

3 3/4 x 5 Flirty Flamingo Layer

3 1/2 x 4 3/4 Basic White Layer

* Everyday Label Punch 

* 3/4 x 4 strip of Pool Party 

* 12 inch piece of Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon

* Stampin' Blends Markers in Pink Pirouette (retired), Flirty Flamingo and Pool Party

I think what makes this simple design visually eye catching is that the brightest layer is shifted slightly.  The Pool Party and Blushing Bride are square to each other with a 1/4 border, and the Blushing Bride and Basic White layers are square to each other with 1/8 inch border.  So here's how I did it.

*** 1st Trix - Before gluing, practise shifting the layers to create the visual dimension.  Lay the Flirty Flamingo layer on top of the Blushing Bride, and shift the Flirty Flamingo layer ever so slightly to the right, keep the Blushing Bride straight and square.  Do you see how this simple trick plays with the eye a bit?  All you've done is slightly move one colour while keeping the base colour straight. 

*** 2nd Trix -  Glue the layers together first before placing them on the card base.  

*** 3rd Trix - Add lots of Mulitpurpose Liquid Glue to the back of the Flirty Flamingo, and line it up on top of the Brushing Bride, shifting slightly to the right,  remember, don't move the Blushing Bride layer, just adjust the Flirty Flamingo.  I suggest using lots of glue because then you have some drying time to smoosh the Flirty Flamingo layer into place.  Lay both layers on the Pool Party card base to make sure the the Blushing Bride is even with the Pool Party *don't glue it down.

*** 4th Trix - Lay the Basic White layer on top ensuring that it lines up square with the Blushing Bride layer, leaving an 1/8 of an inch border, then glue it into place.  

*  Wrap ribbon around the centre of the card layers and tie a bow at the side edge.

*  Adhere the layer to the Pool Party card base with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

*  Adhere the Basic White Everyday Label with Stampin' Dimensionals.

*  Adhere the Pool Party Strip to the label with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.  I decided to angle the one edge so that it looked like a shelf for the cups to sit on.  I also stamped a wood grain image, (from Whiskey Business stamp set) with Pool Party ink and coloured it with Pool Party Stampin' Blends Markers to get the coloured wood look effect.

*  Stamp the cups from Nothing's Better Than stamp set and die cut with the Love You More dies.  Colour the star pattern with a brush stroke of Stampin' Blends Markers in Light and Dark Pool Party, Light and Dark Flirty Flamingo and Dark Pink Pirouette (retired, I don't have Blushing Bride, but you could substitute Light Rococo Rose).

*  Adhere the bottom three cups to the Pool Party Strip with Multipurpose Glue.   Attach the two top cups to the Basic White layer with double dimensionals, so they look like they're balancing on the bottom three cups.  I used two dimensionals stacked on top of each other.  

*  Stamp and fussy cut the 'Thinking of You' with Memento Black ink - can you see where I got the sentiment?  Its part of a longer sentiment on the Many Messages stamp set :)   Adhere it to the label with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
